(POCATELLO, ID) – Drug-related crimes are on the rise in Idaho. KPVI reports that 2013 had the highest number of drug violations in the last five years. That amounted to an estimated 8,700 reported offenses, nearly half of which were committed by people under the age of 24. Idaho State Police say marijuana seizures are down, but the amount of crimes involving cocaine and heroin has gone up exponentially. Experts aren’t sure what is causing the trend, though many officers have revised search procedures in a way that could be leading to more arrests.
