Edward Snowden’s Asylum in Russia May Be Extended

Sunshinepress/Getty Images(MOSCOW) — Is Edward Snowden preparing for another year in Russia? The former National Security Agency contractor’s asylum there could be renewed as early as next week.
Russian migration officials told the Interfax News Agency they still fear that Snowden’s life is in danger and they see no reason to deny his asylum extension request.
But Snowden has, in recent months, suggested he’d be happy to move on from Russia — perhaps to Brazil — if he’s able. He’s been stuck in Russia ever since the U.S. canceled his passport last year, and he still risks arrest and extradition if he travels.
Snowden has kept out of sight since his arrival in Moscow in June 2013, first hiding out in the airport for weeks and then at an undisclosed location in the Moscow area. He has denied accusations that he’s cooperating with Russian intelligence.
