In return, the Red Sox will receive prospects Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree

This marks the second time in as many seasons that the former National League Cy Young winner has been traded. Last season, the Red Sox received Peavy from the Chicago White Sox to help bolster their rotation.

The 33-year-old Peavy is not the pitcher he once was, but going back to the National Leauge where he started his career could be just what he needs.

In 20 starts this season, Peavy is just 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA and a WHIP of 1.43.

Peavy will now go from a team in the Red Sox that will struggle to get back to the postseason this year, to a Giants team that is currently in first place in the NL West.
