Messier/NHLI via Getty Images(BUFFALO, N.Y.) — As the Buffalo Sabres continue to rebuild their franchise, the team is committed to having center Tyler Ennis part of their future as ESPN is reporting the team has rewarded Ennis with a five-year contract worth $23 million.

“I like his approach to the game. I like his compete level. I like his speed,” Sabres general manager Tim Murray said of Ennis. “There’s a lot of things I like about him, and if we can do a long-term deal with him, then obviously the decision we’ve made is we’d go forward with him.”

In his fifth NHL season, Ennis scored 21 goals and totaled a career-high 43 points.

This past season, the Sabres had the worst record in the NHL at 21-51-10.
