(RIRIE, ID) – Some eastern Idaho farmers are considering alternatives to potatoes as spud prices plummet. Logan Hamilton of Ririe tells KIDK that his family planted 110 acres of peas this year. Experts say peas used to be a popular cash crop in eastern Idaho, and are still a mainstay in the Palouse Hills of northern Idaho. Hamilton says peas are just as profitable as barley, and are a useful rotation crop to enrich the soil.
