Florida Judge Rules State Ban on Same-Sex Marriage Unconstitutional
Published at(MIAMI) — A Miami-Dade County Circuit Court judge ruled on Friday that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.
According to the Miami Herald, the ruling is the second in eight days to declare the state’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage unconstitutional. Judge Sarah Zabel said the ban violated equal protection and due process clauses of the U.S. Constitution.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is expected to file for a stay to prevent marriage licenses from being issued to same-sex couples while she appeals the ruling.
