(ISLAND PARK, ID) – Fremont County commissioners have voted to put an advisory question on the Nov. 4 ballot. The non-binding question is meant to gauge public opinion about the possibility of Island Park becoming a national monument. KIDK reports that county administrators are overwhelmingly opposed to the proposal, and are seeking the help of other counties in the region to help bolster further opposition. Democrats and some Republicans have long toyed with the idea of a national monument buffer zone around Yellowstone, but nothing official is currently in the works.
