Guard Carl Nicks Parts Ways with Bucs

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(TAMPA, Fla.) --Offensive guard Carl Nicks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mutually agreed to part ways Friday.

The two-time Pro Bowler signed a five-year, $47.5 million deal in 2012 with the team but has been dealing with ailments that have allowed him to play in only nine games the last two seasons.

"I'd like to thank the Buccaneers organization for working with me as I have attempted to get myself back on the football field," Nicks said in a statement. "However, after careful consideration, I have made the decision to step away from the game. This was by no means an easy decision, but I believe that it is what is best for me and my family, as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers."
The 29-year-old Nicks has played in six NFL seasons, including four with New Orleans where he won a Super Bowl.
