Lesbian Sues for Burial in Veteran’s Cemetery

(BOISE, ID) – A U.S. Navy Veteran is suing the state for the right to be buried next to her late wife. Madelynn Taylor, 74, married her partner, Jean Mixner, in California six years ago. Idaho authorities won’t allow Taylor pre-arrange her burial with Mixner’s ashes at the state Veteran’s Cemetery because Idaho doesn’t recognize the marriages of same-sex couples. The legality of Idaho’s voter-approved ban on gay marriages is now being considered by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
