Wednesday’s demand from Moscow didn’t mince words, first accusing Ukraine’s military of committing criminal activity against pro-Russian separatists, labeling it the “physical annihilation of citizens of their own country.”

Russia’s Foreign Ministry went on to call for Ukraine “to stop shelling peaceful cities and villages in their own country, to return to a real cease-fire in order to save human lives.”

Poroshenko is reportedly willing to discuss the chances of another ceasefire as the foreign minister from Kiev met with his counterparts from Russia, France and Germany to talk about the possibility of a peace deal.

The previous ten-day armistice was broken repeatedly by both sides and Poroshenko has since ordered an intensified military effort to drive insurgents out of at least a dozen occupied cities in the east.
