Nissan announced in a press release that the “self-cleaning paint” is expected to be an aftermarket option for future vehicles. The company does not anticipate making the technology standard.

In Wednesday’s demonstration, a white Nissan LEAF was painted with the Ultra-Ever Dry paint. The technology, “creates a protective layer of air between the paint and the environment, effectively stopping standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the [vehicle’s] surface,” the statement said.

By exhibiting the new technology on the LEAF, Nissan’s “best-selling zero emission vehicle,” the company say it has created the world’s “cleanest car,” that doesn’t harm the environment and does not require a car wash.
