According to TMZ, Richard Pryor Jr. and Rain Pryor don’t think Cannon is the right fit for the role and instead want Marlon Wayans to portray their dad.

Cannon himself played coy when asked directly by TMZ last week if he was part of the project. “It’s one of those things where the movie isn’t in production yet…so I’m trying to play it close to the vest,” he explained.

Cannon did say however that he’s met with Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels, who has reportedly been tapped to helm the project. “I told Lee the one thing I’m not going to do is freebase. I’m not going that far,” Cannon quipped, referencing Pryor’s infamous drug problem.

Reportedly, Marlon Wayans, Damon Wayans, Eddie Griffin, Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy have all been involved in projects to portray Pryor on film, but none of them have panned out.
