The seven men were indicted by a grand jury in Virginia in July 2013, the Department of Justice said. Six of the men are accused of taking part in a kidnapping and robbery conspiracy using taxi cabs in Bogota, Colombia. They would lure intended victims into the cabs, signal to their co-conspirators that the operation was on, and then take them to a location where they could be attacked and robbed. The seventh man is accused of attempting to destroy evidence of the DEA agent’s murder.

On June 20, 2013, DEA Agent James Watson was allegedly the victim of the conspirators, who attacked him with a stun gun and then stabbed him with a knife, according to an indictment.

The men arrived in the U.S. on Tuesday and appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge on Wednesday. Their detention hearing is scheduled for July 9.
