(TEHRAN, Iran) — A passenger plane crash en route from Tehran to Tabas, Iran killed at least 46 people, according to Iranian relief organization Red Crescent.
The incident occurred near Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport around 9:20 a.m. local time Sunday. The Antonov-140 aircraft was carrying 40 passengers and eight crew members.
The plane, assembled in Iran, crashed four miles outside the airport after one of its engines caught fire, eyewitnesses reported.
