British Airways Suspends Flights to Liberia, Sierra Leone
Published at(NEW YORK) — British Airways has halted flights to and from two West African countries in the middle of the Ebola outbreak.
“We have temporarily suspended our flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone until 31 August 2014 due to the deteriorating public health situation in both countries,” the carrier said in a statement Tuesday.
The death toll from the outbreak in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone has climbed to 887, the World Health Organization said Monday. In all, 1,603 people have been infected.
British Airways said it will continue to review the route over the next few weeks.
Any customers who purchased tickets before the suspension will be able to get a full refund or reschedule their flights to a later date.
