DUI Teacher Reassigned

(POCATELLO, ID) – A Pocatello teacher charged with felony driving under the influence will be reassigned to a different school during the upcoming school year.
KPVI reports that Amy Smith, who struck a school crossing guard with her car in May, will be moved from Edahow to Tyhee Elementary. Several parents have voiced concerns about Smith’s continued employment, as well as the safety of their children given Smith’s criminal record.
District 25 officials say safety remains a top priority, but declined to discuss Smith’s record because of privacy concerns. Smith says her crash was the result of medication she’d been taking.
