Farmers Salvaging Grain Crops

(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – Local farmers are making the best of an otherwise dismal grain crop. Experts tell KIDK that many farmers won’t be able to sell their barley to beer manufacturers because the grain kernels have too much moisture, causing them to sprout.

That leaves growers with few options, and some are selling their harvest as livestock feed instead.

Farmer Brad Reed says that with 580,000 acres of barley grown statewide, what comes in the next few weeks with regard to pricing will have a significant impact on Idaho’s economy.
