U.N. spokesperson Farhan Haq confirmed to ABC News that the 36-year-old lawyer pulled out of the job, but offered no additional explanation.

The U.N. had posted a statement earlier on Monday, saying that Alamuddin would serve as part of a three-person commission to “investigate all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, particularly in the occupied Gaza Strip, in the context of the military operations conducted since 13 June 2014.”
