ABC aired the season-one finale of the singing competition Rising Star, which drew an audience of 3.2 million viewers. It was televised opposite the first hour of the MTV VMAs.

Jesse Kinch was crowned the champion of Rising Star, which featured host Josh Groban and experts Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley.

On HBO, the series finale of True Blood scored four million viewers in the same Sunday-night time slot, according to Deadline.com. The vampire drama, which starred Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, ended after seven seasons.
