Idaho Barley Crops Ruined

(NEWDALE, ID) – What hope was left for salvaging this year’s barley crop is now gone for most eastern Idaho grain growers.

Local News 8 reports that this has been the wettest August for the region in 40 years. As much as 60 percent of the malt barley crop has sprouted. Much of that will be sold for pennies on the dollar as cattle feed.

Barley is going for as much as $6.30 per bushel to beer producers. That’s compared to only $3 per bushel going to livestock.
