Less than two hours after the cease-fire expired on Friday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said more than a dozen rockets were launched from Gaza. The IDF responded by resuming its attacks on terror sites across the Gaza Strip.

Diplomatic efforts in Cairo, meanwhile, have failed to secure an extension of the cease-fire.

Despite Israel’s willingness, Hamas refused to go on negotiating, claiming its demands over lifting the blockade of Gaza were not met.

After the rocket attacks began, Israel pulled out of the talks. A source at the prime minister’s office said Israel will not negotiate while under fire from Hamas, adding that rocket attacks can not be used as diplomatic leverage.

Since the cease-fire ended on Friday, several people have been injured in Israel and Gaza and at least one person — a 10-year-old boy in Gaza — has been killed, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
