Israel, Hamas Agree to New 72-Hour Cease-Fire
Published at(JERUSALEM) — Israel and Hamas agreed to another Egyptian-brokered three-day cease-fire in Gaza, officials announced Sunday.
Egyptian representatives succeeded in getting Hamas to lay down their arms and return to the negotiating table, while Israel accepted attempts to try at talks for a permanent cease-fire.
The hold is anticipated to go into effect at midnight local time Monday.
Israel is expected to send a delegation to Cairo to discuss a more comprehensive truce. Hamas has reportedly given up on some of its previous demands, according to Egyptian sources, as discussions for a Gaza airport and seaport have been postponed for a future date.
