Obama offered his congratulations to Prime Minister Erdogan on winning an election to become the 12th president of Turkey, a term he will begin later in August. According to a readout of the call from the White House, Obama and Erdogan agreed on the importance of cooperation on both Iraq and Syria, noting the terrorist threat emanating from the region. The two leaders also discussed the tensions in Gaza, and Obama welcomed Turkish humanitarian aid to vulnerable Syrians and Iraqis.

Speaking with his fellow North American leader, Obama and Harper agreed to work with the rest of the international community to continue to provide humanitarian aid to civilians near Mount Sinjar.

Each of the three leaders also agreed upon the importance of the formation of an inclusive government in Iraq that can pull the country together.
