(BLACKFOOT, ID) – Agricultural researchers have found late blight in Bingham County potato fields. Officials with the University of Idaho say wet weather has likely contributed to the spread of late blight spores.
The disease causes vines to shrivel and spuds to deteriorate. Local News 8 reports that at this point in the growing season, the only preventative measures involve spraying vines with fungicides.
Experts say late blight is the most serious of its kind in the world.
