Rain Damages Hay Crops

(BLACKFOOT, ID) – Last week’s rain showers caused headaches for local hay farmers. Local News 8 reports that many growers had cut hay and were ready to bale when the storms hit.

Alfalfa and grass hay need to be dry for baling to reduce the risk of molding and spontaneous combustion.

Several farmers lost thousands of dollars on their latest crop because of molding issues. They aren’t out of the ring yet, either. Mild-to-heavy thunderstorms are expected to blanket most of the region through Saturday.
