(IDAHO FALLS, ID)  — Idaho Falls hosted the inaugural Intermountain Energy Summit Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Event was designed to bring industry and political leaders throughout the west together to collaborate on better ways to create and use energy.

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper was a key figure in putting the event together.  She says Idaho Falls was a natural fit for the convention.

Casper also hopes that this is just the beginning for making the summit a staple.

Several leaders from throughout the west were on hand to take part in the conference.  Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo along with Rep. Mike Simpson were among the list of speakers.  Senator Risch believes that nuclear energy is the future and the Idaho National Laboratory can lead the way.

Governor Butch Otter also spoke.  He talked about how important it is to make sure we can get the energy where it needs to go.

The key note speaker of the event was U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz.  He announced some new projects that Idaho will play a big part in.

Sec. Moniz believes the INL is a global leader in nuclear energy.
