(NEW YORK) — The Pittsburgh Pirates could be losing star center fielder Andrew McCutchen for a month. The team is expected to place the outfielder on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, but sources say McCutchen could be out for at least three weeks due to an oblique injury.
The injury came in the eighth inning of Sunday’s contest with Arizona. After hitting a sacrifice fly in the eighth, McCutchen grabbed his left side while jogging to first but needed help entering the dugout.
The 2013 National League MVP is hitting .311 with 17 homers and 67 RBI’s this year.
McCutchen has never been on the disabled list in his career. Since reaching the Majors in 2009, he has missed a grand total of 25 games. The Pirates are currently one-and-a-half games behind division leading Milwaukee and half a game back of the second wild-card spot.
