(LOS ANGELES) — The Los Angeles Clippers officially has a new owner.
Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft, became the new owner of the basketball team after the sale closed on Tuesday.
Former Clippers owner Donald Sterling had insisted that his wife, Shelly, had no right to sell the team without his approval. But a court ruled she did have that right after he was ruled to be mentally incompetent by two doctors.
In a short statement Tuesday, the NBA said the Board of Governors “previously approved the sale and Ballmer is now the Clippers Governor.”
