The Belfast Coastguard was first contacted before 2 p.m. local time to alert authorities about the strong winds and capsized vessels in Strangford Lough, officials said in a release. Bangor and Portaferry rescue teams, the Irish Coastguard and the RAF Valley also responded to the scene.

Authorities believe all those in the water have been accounted for, but continue to search the area to be sure. Most of the injured who were treated on the scene showed signs of hypothermia.

The GP14 world championship is one of Northern Ireland’s largest events for single class twin crew dinghies. According to BBC News, more than 200 competitors come from as far as Australia to participate.
