(AMMON, ID) – District 93 and the city of Ammon are testing out new technology to help improve police response times in school shootings. KIDK reports that the district is trying out Shotpoint, an acoustic shot detection system.

The technology notifies law enforcement about the location of shooters in hallways through sensors mounted on ceilings. Officials say the sensors are connected to an automated 911 system, which connects schools to dispatchers.

Ammon is in a national competition for the system that includes four other communities. A winner will be announced in December.
