On Friday, two more films make their debut at your local theater. Here’s a closer look:

The Expendables 3 — Virtually every big action star from the past 30 years is featured in this sequel, which pits The Expendables team against one of its co-founders — the evil Conrad Stonebanks, played by Mel Gibson. Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Kellan Lutz and Ronda Rousey also star. Rated PG-13.

The Giver — Based on the Lois Lowry novel of the same name, Brenton Thwaites plays a young man in a post-apocalyptic world who discovers his society’s dark past from The Giver — the keeper of memories, played by Jeff Bridges. The cast also includes Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Swift. Rated PG-13.

And expanding to wide release:

Magic in the Moonlight — In Woody Allen’s latest film, Colin Firth plays a magician who tries to expose a psychic — Emma Stone’s character — as a fake in 1920s France. Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney and Jacki Weaver also star in the romantic comedy. Rated PG-13.
