Assistant to the President and White House Cabinet Secretary Broderick Johnson, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement Marlon Marshall, and Advisor for the White House Office of Public Engagement Heather Foster will travel to Missouri for the funeral. Marshall, who is originally from St. Louis, attended high school with Brown’s mother.

Brown was shot and killed by officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. His death sparked protests in the Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb, that resulted in night of angry and sometimes violent confrontations between residents and police. Federal and local investigations into the shooting and Brown’s death remain ongoing.
