Yellowstone to Remove 900 Bison

(WEST YELLOWSTONE, MT) – Yellowstone National Park administrators want to remove 900 bison next winter. The plan calls for the removal of 19 percent of the park’s bison population through hunting, as well as other methods.

Wildlife activists say they’d rather see the animals allowed in a buffer zone outside the park where they’d remain protected.

Ranchers are opposed to the expansion outside the park because of the risk of spreading diseases to livestock. Hunters and other government agencies removed 640 bison last year.
