Blackfoot Boy Receives Hometown Hero Award
Published at | Updated atPOCATELLO, Idaho (AP) – An 11-year-old Idaho boy has been named a “Hometown Hero” for his work helping his mother, who is blind.
Alec Carlson was the youngest of three youngsters to receive the award at the fourth annual event sponsored by the JRM Foundation on Saturday in Pocatello.
The Idaho State Journal reports that Alec’s mother, Angelina Carlson, has been legally blind since birth.
She says she doesn’t know what she would do without her two sons, Alec and 9-year-old Tyler.
In addition to helping his mother navigate when she goes for walks or moves around their home, Alec helps her cook and do laundry. Alec has had to step up his role as a caregiver for his mother since his father died last year.
