Chargers Running Back Danny Woodhead Likely Out for Season
Published at(NEW YORK) — Already dealing with an injury to starting running back Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead is likely out the rest of the season with a severe high ankle sprain as well as a fractured fibula.
Woodhead suffered the injury during the first quarter of the team’s win over the Buffalo Bills. He needed to be carted off the field.
“Hey, we’re going to keep rolling,” Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said. “We have to keep going, and we’re not going to make any excuses.”
Donald Brown, who signed with the team during the offseason, will likely see the bulk of the carries while Mathews recovers from a MCL knee sprain.
“Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the sport,” said Brown, who finished with 62 yards on 31 carries in San Diego’s 22-10 win at Buffalo. “Guys are going to get hurt, and other guys have to step out and carry the load. Next man (up) is pretty much the mantra of this team.”
Woodhead ends his season with 38 rushing yards on 15 carries.
