Dodgers Hyun-Jin Ryu Likely to Miss His Next Start, Return Unknown

Matt King/Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) — With the Los Angeles Dodgers right in the middle of the stretch run of the regular season, they’ll be without starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu for at least one start as he is dealing with left shoulder irritation.
Ryu was rocked in his most recent start Friday night against the San Francisco Giants. He gave up four earned runs in just one inning of work before leaving the game due to shoulder pain.
He is expected to fly back to Los Angeles on Monday to undergo an MRI.
“If he’s out, somebody else has to pick it up,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “It’s kind of what the [Los Angeles] Angels did when [Garrett Richards] went down. Everybody thought it was the end of the world and, all of a sudden, they’ve been on fire without him.”
Ryu said that his latest injury was similar to the one that kept him out of action for nearly a month earlier in the season.
In his second season in Major League Baseball, Ryu is 14-7 with a 3.38 ERA in 26 starts for the Dodgers.
