Emma Watson Nude Photo Threat a Hoax

ABC 092514 EmmaWatson? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1411644912059ABC/Rick Rowell(NEW YORK) — The online threat against Emma Watson to release nude photos of the actress following her much-publicized gender equality speech appears to have been a hoax.

It had been reported that members of 4chan had set up a website, EmmaYouAreNext.com, to issue the threat. However, that URL now redirects visitors to a website for a “social media marketing enterprise” called Rantic, which says it wants 4chan to be shut down to prevent further leaks of private photos that have targeted a number of female celebrities, such as Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton.

Rantic has posted an open letter to President Obama that reads in part, “We have been hired by celebrity publicists to bring this disgusting issue to attention. The recent 4chan celebrity nude leaks in [the] past 2 months have been an invasion of privacy and is [sic] also clear indication that the internet NEEDS to be censored.”

Reportedly, the Rantic company itself is fake as well.

Watson appeared at the U.N. last week to deliver a speech on gender equality that subsequently went viral. The United Nations Women’s Goodwill Ambassador has been promoting the U.N.’s HeForShe campaign, which calls on people to take action against all forms of violence and discrimination faced by women and girls.
