JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) – A family that lost a home in a creeping landslide in Jackson has filed notice that it intends to seek $4.17 million in damages from the town and Teton County.

Their claim asserts a series of negligent actions and inactions served as catalysts for the slide earlier this year.

The notice cites a 2011 water leak that went unchecked for several days. It also refers to permits that were approved to allow a commercial property to be developed at the base of the slope, among other allegations.

Jackson Mayor Mark Barron tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that he hadn’t seen the document yet.

But he noted that such notices are procedural moves, not litigation, and he hopes the town can discuss the issue with the family.
