But backup Jerry Neuheisal put all doubts to rest by completing 23 of 30 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, including the eventual game-winner with three minutes to play, as the No. 12 Bruins nip Texas 20-17 Saturday.

With UCLA down by four with just over three minutes to play, Neuheisal, who is the son of former UCLA coach Rick Neuheisal, completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Payton to seal the win.

“My first thought was excitement for Jerry Neuheisel. This kid is everything that’s right about college football and about UCLA,” UCLA head coach Jim Mora said. “I just thought, `Wow. You couldn’t write a better script than this right here. His dad was a great player here. For him to come to Texas and bringing his team from behind to get a win. It’s incredible. It’s awesome.”

Tyrone Swoopes completed 24 of 34 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns for Texas (1-2).

Paul Perkins rushed for 126 yards to help UCLA improve to 3-0 as it heads into conference play.
