(REXBURG, ID) – Federal aviation investigators have determined what caused a plane crash that killed five people in central Idaho last November.

The plane had taken off from Baker City, Oregon en route to Butte, Montana when icy conditions caused an engine failure.

Two of those killed, Amber Smith and Jonathan Norton, were engaged BYU-Idaho students.

The plane wasn’t found until Jan. 10. Authorities are unsure if the pilot, Dale Smith, reviewed weather forecasts before taking off.
