BLACKFOOT, Idaho (AP) – The Blackfoot Municipal Airport in southeastern Idaho is installing upgrades to meet Federal Aviation Administration standards.

Mayor Paul Loomis tells the Idaho State Journal that the upgrades include replacing outdated lights along the runway with LEDs that will be brighter.

Plans also call for installing wind cones at both ends of the runway and replacing the airport beacon with one that can be lowered to the ground for maintenance.

The upgrades cost about $415,000 but Blackfoot is responsible for only about 6 percent.

An FAA grant is paying for 90 percent of the work and the Idaho Transportation Department is covering the rest.

Loomis says work will likely start in mid-October and take three weeks.
