Jerry Jones: NFL Owners Support Commissioner Roger Goodell
Published at(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — As the NFL continues to dominate the headlines for the wrong reasons, Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones says that the owners are standing behind their maligned commissioner, Roger Goodell.
Goodell has been heavily criticized among fans and media for his recent handling of the Ray Rice suspension/fallout. Some have called for his job, but Jones says the league is sticking with him.
“Roger has done an amazing job for the game and that’s where I’m going with this,” Jones said on Sunday. “At the end of the day, there are a lot of issues, but it’s important to keep our eye on the game, the integrity of the game and what we want the game to be.”
“Along the way there are going to be mistakes, and when we see them we need to correct them. The game itself is about making mistakes and understanding being contrite, and go out and fix them and do better and then come back and have some success then. And so we’re having those kinds of days,” he continued.
Jones also added that a league meeting will be held in New York sometime this week.
Goodell has been the NFL’s commissioner since 2006.
