Kelly learned the news Thursday after follow-up biopsies came back negative.

“This is some of the greatest news I’ve ever gotten,” Kelly said in a statement. “It’s been a long road, and I’m still not back to 100 percent, but I have a lot to be thankful for.”

Kelly has been battling cancer of the upper jaw since earlier this year. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments it was declared in August that initial tests found no evidence of cancer. Despite the news, Kelly still needed to have biopsies on other area’s of his mouth to make sure he was cancer free.

Kelly spent 11 seasons with the Bills before retiring back in 1996.  He holds franchise records for passing yards and and touchdowns. Kelly was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
