Markets Close Slightly Lower

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 26 points to 17,111. The S&P 500 lost 6 points and closed at 2,001. The Nasdaq finished 9 points higher at 4,592.

Americans were out shopping in July.  Consumers stepped up their borrowing — led by auto loans and higher credit card balances.  Borrowing was up $26 billion to $3.24 trillion, an increase of 9.7 percent.

Twitter wants you to shop between tweets.  They’re testing a ‘buy’ button that will let users make purchases or donate money to charities without leaving the site.

Apple is expected to announce its next big thing Tuesday — some speculate it’s a smartwatch or bracelet that can monitor health.

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew says a decision will be made in the very near future on what actions to take to make it less profitable for companies to move their legal addresses to other countries.

It seems baby boomers don’t want to retire in New York.  AARP says 60 percent of working New Yorkers over 50 years old plan to go elsewhere in retirement.
