BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Fans entering Albertsons Stadium for Saturday’s Boise State game faced long lines as the university used metal detectors for the first time.

The Idaho Statesman reports that many fans felt the extra security measures were irksome, but that nearly all fans were in their seats by the kick-off.

Boise State beat Colorado State 37-24 in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.

The university implemented the new security system in part because the Idaho Legislature passed a law that allows concealed weapons on campus but not in large venues.

Greg Hahn is spokesman for BSU. He said the university was moving toward tightened security even before the new gun law. He says the 2013 bombings at the Boston Marathon forced a reevaluation of security measures.
