Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said on Monday that the U.S. will deliver the hospital to meet a USAID request. He said no U.S. military personnel will be involved in providing health care from the hospital.

“We will set it up, stockpile it and turn it over to the government of Liberia for their use,” said Warren. He explained that “the intent of this piece of equipment is to provide a facility that health care workers in the affected region can use for themselves if they become ill or injured.”

It’s unclear when the field hospital will be delivered or by what means.

“The planning for that is ongoing, it is not en route yet,” said Warren. “It’s a top priority and we expect it to get there rapidly.”
