Photo-Sharing Service Twitpic Shuts Down
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Online photo-sharing service Twitpic will shut down Sept. 25, officials said in an “unexpected and hard announcement” Thursday.
The organization pinned most of the blame on Twitter, which reportedly contacted the company’s legal team “demanding” they abandon the application or risk losing access to the social media platform’s API.
“Unfortunately we do not have the resources to fend off a large company like Twitter to maintain our mark which we believe whole heartedly is rightfully ours,” Twitpic said in a statement. “Therefore, we have decided to shut down Twitpic.”
Application users will still be able to export photos and videos in the coming days.
