Yet, a survey by insurance firm Chubb Group suggests most Americans are feeling anxiety about unmanned aircraft that appear to be the wave of the nation’s aerodynamic future.

Of the 1,000 adults questioned about drones, 78 percent are concerned it could turn the U.S. into a “surveillance state” while six in ten worry that they might snap pictures of them and family members or even worse, be used by peeping toms.

Since Chubb is in the property and casualty business, the company also geared questions in that vein. For example, 75 percent feel that drones could damage or crash into their property and 55 percent are concerned they can injure people.

Meanwhile, about a third believe unmanned aircraft could be programmed to steal their possessions.

Also, a majority says that neither private citizens nor businesses should be allowed to operate drones, although 21 percent expressed an interest in getting one of their very own.
