Pope Francis Speaks Against ‘Piecemeal’ World War III
Published at(ROME) — At a mass in front of Italy’s biggest war memorial in Redipuglia, Pope Francis denounced war as “insanity,” saying numerous conflicts around the world today constitute a “piecemeal” World War III.
The pontiff condemed the arms trade and terrorism during his statements Saturday, saying wars are fueled by ambition and intolerance that are later justified by ideology, or a complete disregard for others’ lives.
In August, the pope said it would be legitimate for the international community to use force in order to stop “unjust aggression” by terrorist groups, including Islamic State militants who have carried out genocide against religious minorities in Iraq and Syria.
