Latos was scheduled to start on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers, but his start was skipped due to a bone bruise in his pitching elbow.

Even though the injury is not considered to be serious, with about two weeks left in the regular season and the Reds playoff hopes all but lost, the team sees no reason to push him and risk further injury.

“We’re not going to try to force feed Mat his last few starts if he’s not feeling really good,” Reds manager Bryan Price told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “It doesn’t make much sense for us. I’d like him to pitch, but I don’t want to exacerbate an existing issue. He’ll have to come quite a ways to make that next start.”

Latos got a late start to the season as he recovered from elbow and knee issues, but was still effective this season when on the mound. In 16 starts, the 26-year-old Latos went 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA.
